School years of Woody Allen



Woody Allen was born in New York City, Brooklyn, Midwood quarter. Woody’s Grandpa and Grandma immigrated, they were Jews whose mother tongue was German and Yiddish. Allen's mother was a bookkeeper in the biscuit factory, and his father occasionally worked in several specialties, a waiter and a jeweler - engraver. They lived then in the bottom quarter of the East End on Manhattan. Also Woody has a sister, she is younger then him, was born in 1943.

Since childhood Woody has been taught to speak Yiddish, and he spoke it, and even, went to school for Jews for the first eight years, and after it, he was transferred to a high school in Midwood. His school nickname was - "red". Once in a summer camp he was severely beaten by other children of all nations. He was not a weakling, an excellent schoolboy, playing basketball, was surrounded by many friends, but somehow in his films, he always shows himself as a man of poor, who can be vanished into thin air, cracked up.
